Holiday Traditions and Experiences of the Enslaved Community

Step into the holiday season with a profound and immersive evening tour at the Davenport House Museum, presented in partnership with Patt Gunn and Underground Tours featuring her “Saltwata Players” performing freedom and holiday songs. This special program delves into what Christmas would have been like for the enslaved workers who resided in the home during the 1820s. Through engaging and immersive interpretation, guests will explore holiday traditions expressed through song, dance, foodways, and spirituality.

This unique, thought-provoking tour offers a deeper understanding of the holiday season at the Davenport House, shedding light on the often-overlooked stories of the enslaved community. Join us for an evening of reflection and education that will leave you with a richer, more nuanced perspective on the meaning of the holidays for the downtown urban enslaved community.

Tickets are priced at $30 for adults and $20 for children 18 and under. Tours are scheduled at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, and 7:00 PM.
