Holiday Traditions Family Day

What are the traditions that bring us together through the darkest days of the year? Across history and cultures, winter has always been a time for community, storytelling, light, and shared meals.

At this special Family Day, the Davenport House opens its doors for a free community celebration exploring a variety of winter holiday traditions from different cultures throughout history. Families can enjoy free, self-guided tours of the historic house, listen to a cozy live read-aloud of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, and take in the festive atmosphere with live music filling the grounds.

Through engaging hands-on activities designed for all ages, participants will explore diverse cultural celebrations past and present. Plus, visitors can experience special culinary demonstrations from local chefs showcasing traditional holiday foods—such as Gullah Geechee and Jewish heritage dishes—that honor history through flavor. Join us to explore, taste, and celebrate the rich tapestry of winter traditions that connect our community.

Family Day is free and open to the public thanks to generous support from the City of Savannah. Join us for an afternoon of history, culture, and community as we celebrate the many stories that make Savannah unique.
