Education and Program Associate
Position: Education and Programs Associate
Location: Davenport House Museum, Savannah, GA
Compensation: $14.00/hour
Hours: 20 hours per week, varied schedule with a preference for Friday and Saturdays. Flexibility required for additional hours based on program needs and events.
Position Summary
Are you passionate about history and love sharing it with others? The Davenport House Museum is seeking an Education and Programs Associate to join our team. This position involves leading engaging tours, assisting with hands-on programs, and creating memorable experiences for visitors. As a member of our dedicated team, you’ll contribute to sharing the unique history of Savannah and the Davenport House Museum.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
As a Per-Diem Educator and Programs Associate at the Davenport House Museum, you will:
Develop and deliver engaging tours based on training and provided resources.
Lead visitors of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities through the museum, sharing the history and significance of the Davenport House.
Facilitate hands-on educational activities for youth groups, enhancing their learning experiences.
Assist with after-hours programming, including specialty tours, public events, and private bookings.
Assist with visitor services, including greeting guests, occasionally operating the shop register, and providing information at the front desk.
Support museum programming through preparation, research, and implementation of educational initiatives.
Assist with light maintenance tasks, office duties, and set-up and break-down of events.
Represent the Davenport House Museum enthusiastically and professionally, providing an excellent visitor experience.
Required Competencies
Passion for History and Education: You should have a demonstrated interest in public history, education, and working with diverse audiences.
Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to share historical content in an engaging and dynamic manner.
Customer Service: A commitment to excellent customer service and creating a welcoming experience for all visitors.
Reliability: Dependable, personable, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt educational content to different age groups and learning styles.Willingness to learn new softwares and systems.
Technical Skills Required
Comfortable presenting information to large and small groups.
Ability to manage hands-on classroom activities with youth audiences.
Willingness to learn and retain historical information relevant to the museum's tours and programs.
Ability to adapt educational activities for diverse audiences, including children, adults, and those with varying physical and cognitive abilities.
Physical Demands
This role requires standing for extended periods, giving group presentations, and assisting visitors throughout a busy museum environment. You will need to manage large groups of people of varying abilities. Ability to navigate stairs is a must.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional museum setting. You may be working both indoors and outdoors, depending on the nature of specific tours or programs.
Expected Hours of Work
We anticipate this position will primarily work Fridays and Saturdays, with the potential for after-hours shifts. Additional hours during the week will be scheduled as needed based on the program and tour calendar. Preference will be given to candidates who are available during our busiest seasons (spring and fall) and holidays.
