DH Junior Interpreter Program

The Junior Interpreter Program is open to coastal Georgia youth ages 14 to 18 who wish to learn about the historic site, the principals of historic interpretation and customer service. The training program is conducted each summer beginning in June. Junior Interpreter Day is the final event of program when these young people showcase their new skills. There is also an additional JI training program conducted in the fall in a partnership with American History students from the Savannah Arts Academy under the tutelage of Rod MacKay. This program is limited to SAA attendees only.

The training process for our Junior Interpreters takes six weeks to complete. There are four two-hour training sessions and then each JI takes three tours with three different veteran JIs before giving the museum director an evaluation tour. Then that JI can begin giving tours to museum guests.

The museum holds Junior Interpreter days where all tours are given by teenagers in the JI program. JIs also have the opportunity to help with our yellow fever living history program in October and our holiday interpretation in December.

Call Jamie Credle at (912)236-8097 to find out when the next Junior Interpreter training session will be held.
